Auchan Retail Luxembourg has launched a charity initiative in support of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.

As the new school year gets underway, Auchan once again joined the SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde Luxembourg-headquartered charity's solidarity initiative around the subject of education.

From now until Saturday 19 September 2020, Auchan customers can donate to the charity's new education programme in the Central African Republic. As in 2019, the three Auchan hypermarkets in Luxembourg (Kirchberg, Differdange and Cloche d'Or) are participating in this initiative, as well as the associated shopping centres.

This year, the return to school takes on a special meaning as more than a billion children around the world have been deprived of school for months and many, faced with emergency or otherwise vulnerable situations, may not yet be able to return. The SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde education programme is an integrated education and protection project developed in a public school in the vicinity of Bangui, the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic. After having paid a heavy price in the civil war, many children in the Central African Republic lack everything and still cannot attend normal schooling. The programme thus aims to offer hundreds of vulnerable, unaccompanied and displaced children and victims of violence a quality education in a secure environment and to raise awareness among those around them of children's rights and protection.

As always, but in compliance with the sanitary measures currently in force, for nearly three weeks, Auchan customers can make a donation during their checkout or buy one of the solidarity products (selection of school supplies, €1 of which is donated to SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde) or make a donation in one of the charity tins available in partner stores. Throughout the initiative, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde will be present on Saturdays with an information and entertainment stand at the Auchan shopping centres in Opkorn (Differdange; 5 September), Luxembourg-Kirchberg (12 September) and Luxembourg-Cloche d'Or (19 September).

On Tuesday 1 September 2020, Sophie Glesener, Director of SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, participated in the launch of the 2020 action, in the presence of Marc Gueuzurian, Director of the Auchan Kirchberg hypermarket. Ms Glesener commented: “We are very grateful to our faithful Auchan's partners to once again materialise this beautiful action of solidarity in favour of the children of the Central African Republic to enable them to learn in complete safety and in the best possible conditions”.
