Thirteen Luxembourgish non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs) have released a video message to showcase the need for international solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This video demonstrates how the organisations and their partners in the Global South are dealing with the pandemic in some of the poorest and most challenged societies around the world. In many of these countries another crisis awaits: a hunger and economic crisis, which will increase existing fractures and inequalities. The thirteen NGDOs have thus stressed the need to strengthen global efforts and show solidarity.
According to the organisations, the COVID-19 crisis has revealed that everyone is vulnerable, yet the capacity to respond to it remains very diverse. As a global society, everyone and everything is interconnected and dependent on each other. The NGDOs in question thus called for action to create a world in which everyone can live in dignity and mutual respect, leaving no one behind.
The organisations explained that citizens, governments and corporations can individually and collectively contribute to the construction of a fairer society worldwide through their choices, voices and actions. Some ways of achieving this include responsible consumption, inclusivity, supporting local communities, standing up for gender equality and diversity, listening, reaching out and sharing, reducing, reusing and recycling, and spending time and money to make a difference.
