The 20th edition of the 1000 km Hesper race will take place on Sunday 14 July 2019; as in previous years, the organising committee of the "Laftreff Hesper" as well as the municipality of Hesperange have renewed their confidence in Handicap International.

The objective of the race is to gather the greatest number of runners to run a total of at least 1000 kilometres. The record to beat is 8.850 kilometres. Those wishing to take part in the race, should register at Centre Nicolas Braun in Hesperange (Alzingen) on 14 July any time between 08:00 and 12:00. The planned course is two kilometres but the participants are free to do as many laps as they wish. To celebrate this 20th edition, "Laftreff Hesper" and Handicap International will offer a gift to the first 300 to register.

During the race, members of Handicap International Luxembourg will be accompanied by numerous volunteers to raise awareness among participants and visitors of the problem of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. Awareness activities will also be available at Handicap International's booth, including a children's drawing workshop and a virtual reality experience. Teams of companies can also participate in the race as a team-building exercise. Registrations for these teams close on 3 July 2019.

Sandrine Guivarch, Head of partnerships for Handicap International Luxembourg, added: "We have also developed the concept of online collection to make the race more competitive. In addition to the kilometres traveled, it is now possible for everyone to easily create an online collection as a pledge of additional objective. Each athlete can be supported by their family, friends and colleagues, with the goal of solidarity". This is available on www.jecollecte.handicap-international.lu.

As a reminder, the 2018 edition gathered 632 participants who ran 6,474 kilometres to collect a sum of €5,941, which went towards clearing just as many square-metres and ensured the safety of dozens of villages from accidents.

Registration costs a minimum of €5 to be paid to the Laftreff Hesper Committee via transfer to the CCP of the LT Hesper CCP of the LT Hesper: LU97 1111 1712 4237 0000 or on the spot on the day of the race.
