In the run up to Christmas celebrations, SOS Faim has called on the people of Luxembourg to continue the fight against world hunger.

After years of success in the fight against hunger, SOS Faim has found that the number of people suffering from hunger has now increased for the first time in a decade. In 2016, 815 million people or 11% of the world's population were going hungry- 38 million more than the previous year.

Moreover, 75% of people suffering from starvation live in rural areas and depend on agriculture and local natural resources to live. In Burkina Faso, Mali, Benin, Niger and Ethiopia, farmers' organisations- the partners of SOS Faim- have testified to the difficulties of this rural life. Every day millions of farmers struggle tirelessly to feed their families.

The farmers' organisations in these countries have helped to bring a whole range of services and concrete support to the small African farmers to help them in their daily work, from providing access to credit, supporting the irrigation system and offering technical support for sustainable farming methods.

In Luxembourg, SOS Faim promotes awareness and mobilisation that encourages citizens to exercise their responsibility to act for greater international solidarity. As such, the NGO has made a plea to the Luxembourgish population to further support their cause.
