On Wednesday 28 October 2026, Luxembourg petrol station operator Gulf celebrated 25 years of operations in Grand Duchy, highlighting the development of its petrol station network into mobility hubs.

The company, which opened its first Luxembourg petrol station in Weiswampach in 2001, currently operates a network of seventeen stations through Certas Energy Luxembourg, a subsidiary of DCC Energy, and holds an estimated market share of 5%.

According to Gulf, 65% of visitors to its stations now use only the shops without purchasing fuel, reflecting changing consumer habits. The company has expanded its partnership with Cactus shoppi to offer groceries alongside traditional petrol station services.

The company further reported that its retail activities have recorded significant growth over the past three years, with convenience shopping becoming an increasingly important part of its operations.

"Our business has evolved considerably. A petrol station today must be able to meet several needs in one place. The collaboration with Cactus shoppi allows us to offer a convenience range that naturally complements our mobility activities," said Wolfgang Leder, Managing Director of Certas Energy Luxembourg, which operates Gulf stations in Luxembourg.

The company has also developed stations combining petrol pumps, Cactus shoppi stores, catering facilities, car washes, postal services and electric vehicle charging.

As part of its expansion into electric mobility, Gulf recently installed 400 kW high-power charging (HPC) points at three of its Luxembourg stations.

Certas Energy Luxembourg is also monitoring developments in alternative fuels, including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a renewable fuel considered a potential option for diversifying energy sources in the automotive sector.

Gulf confirmed that it is exploring further expansion opportunities in Luxembourg, particularly in the south of the country.

To mark its 25th anniversary, the company organised a competition offering participants the chance to win a year's supply of fuel. According to Gulf, the campaign attracted more than 5,000 entries.
