Luxembourg City Holds Annual Klouschtergaart Grape Harvest

On Monday 14 September 2026, the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) held its annual grape harvest at the Klouschtergaart, located in the gardens of the former Neumünster Abbey at the foot of the Bock rock.

Following the annual tradition, Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, together with aldermen Maurice Bauer, Laurent Mosar and Patrick Goldschmidt and alderwoman Corinne Cahen and Simone Beissel, took part in the harvest, alongside several employees of the City of Luxembourg's Service Parcs. One of the employees is specifically responsible for tending the Klouschtergaart vines as part of his regular duties.

This Luxembourg City tradition dates back to 2004, when the VdL, as part of its partnership with the Landesgartenschau in Trier, Germany, restored the terraced gardens and reintroduced vines and medicinal plants alongside the vegetable crops traditionally grown there.

The vineyard covers approximately four ares and features Luxembourg grape varieties including Elbling, Rivaner and Pinot, as well as mixed varieties. The vines are cultivated according to a traditional method, with each vine tended individually.

According to the VdL, this year's harvest amounted to approximately 260 kg of grapes, which is expected to produce around 200 litres of wine.

The Klouschtergaart wine is not available for sale. It is served at VdL receptions or offered as a gift during official visits to City Hall.

Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Alderman Bauer revealed that, although he does not drink alcohol himself, he enjoys taking part in the annual grape harvest.

He explained that the wine produced from the harvest mostly remains in Luxembourg and is used at the city's official receptions. He added that it may occasionally be taken abroad as a gift during official trips, although this is rare, as travelling with alcohol can be complicated.
