On Thursday 23 July 2026, the Luxembourg Confederation announced that the Wholesale Alliance Luxembourg (WAL) has joined the organisation as its 27th sectoral federation.
Established by eight founding members, the WAL held its constituent general assembly in January 2026 and now represents Luxembourg's wholesale trade sector, which the federation described as an essential but often overlooked part of the country's economy.
"The sector is often overlooked, yet it is essential to the smooth functioning of the Luxembourg economy. Wholesale trade is a key link in the distribution chain, ensuring the daily supply of numerous retail outlets and economic operators across the country," explained WAL President Georges Krombach.
The federation said one of its main objectives is to provide a unified voice for the sector in discussions with political and economic decision-makers. Among the key challenges it has identified are the limited availability of suitable logistics and storage facilities in Luxembourg, as well as increasing financial pressures on wholesalers. It noted that wholesalers are playing a growing role in financing supply chains by accommodating longer payment terms and taking on the risks associated with introducing and storing new products.
The WAL also aims to become a platform for dialogue, bringing together wholesalers from different sectors to exchange experiences, develop common positions and contribute to the long-term development of wholesale trade in Luxembourg.
"Wholesale trade plays a fundamental role in the Luxembourg economy, but its importance remains too often under-recognised. Through the WAL, we want to bring together stakeholders across the sector to defend their interests, encourage exchanges and actively contribute to discussions on the future of distribution and logistics in Luxembourg," concluded Georges Krombach.
The federation's Board of Directors consists of Georges Krombach from Fixmer as President, Olivier Miche from Electrolux Luxembourg and Mariella Di Giambattista from RAK Porcelain Europe as Vice-Presidents, together with Laure Elsen from CK Group, Georges Clement from Hanff Global Health Solutions, Jean-Marc Hoffmann from Hospilux, Laurent Saeul from Minusines and Laurent De Volder from Reinert as board members.
Founded in 1909, the Luxembourg Confederation represents businesses operating in the services, trade and transport sectors.
