Luxembourg's Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy has confirmed that almost five million rapid antigen tests have been distributed to businesses in the Grand Duchy to date.

During a meeting with representatives of the OGBL, LCGB and UEL unions, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Dan Kersch, presented the results of the rapid antigen test distribution campaign.

Around 1.1 million such tests were delivered directly to Luxembourg companies with more than 500 employees.

As of 17 May 2021, a total of 3.6 million tests had been distributed to 46,775 companies or private individuals employing a cleaning person. These figures correspond to a rate of 82% of tests collected. 61.2% of the people or companies invited went to one of the distribution centres. Bertrange was the most frequented centre with 15,516 visitors passing through, followed by the centres in Soleuvre (12,757), Fridhaff (9,350) and Grevenmacher (8,860).

120 jobseekers worked for two weeks in the four distribution centres.

After the end of the distribution campaign in the regional centres on 29 May 2021, a distribution centre was set up on the premises of the Labour Ministry. Between 31 May and 25 June 2021, 30,000 additional tests were distributed to 208 companies or private individuals.

Minister Dan Kersch welcomed the success of the campaign, noting: "The numbers clearly show us that companies have understood the importance of rapid antigenic testing and I can only congratulate them".

Representatives of UEL, OGBL and LCGB also praised the positive outcome of the campaign which they supported from the start.

The Labour Minister also thanked the municipalities of Sanem, Bertrange, Diekirch and Grevenmacher which hosted the regional distribution centres and which contributed to the success of this campaign through their logistical support.

The situation will be reassessed in September after the return from summer holidays.
