Carlex Luxembourg has invested €24.5 million in the construction of a new windshield production line on its Grevenmacher site, to be operational in the first quarter of 2018.
Carlex Luxembourg, an important provider of high-quality glass products for the automobile industry, has invested in a new windshield production line. The modernisation of this installation will allow the company to reduce its general energy consumption by 27%, whilst also improving the quality of its products by increasing general productivity with reduced production time and defect rates.

The company, formerly Guardian Automotive, employs 506 people and is part of the Japanese Central Glass Company. It provides glass products for companies such as Bentley, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Porsche, Seat, Volkswagen and, especially BMW and Audi. Situated in Potaschbierg, Carlex produces 2.8 million high quality windshields and rear windows with integrated functions as well as panoramic roofs.

During a press conference to present the project on 9 November 2016, the Deputy-Prime Minister and Minister for the economy, Étienne Schneider, stated: “The modernisation of Carlex’s production site is a prime example of the qualitative growth of a company. By consuming less primary materials and resources, the company remains competitive on a very competitive market. Production will noticeably be reinforced by less energy consumption which will contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions by 11,000 tons per year.”

The plant manager of Carlex Luxembourg, Albert Franck, added that : “The modernisation of our facilities allows us to better meet the demands of our clients in regard to optimum quality and “tailor-made” windshields.”
