On Tuesday 14 January 2025, the British Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (BCC) held a Members’ New Year Cocktail at the residence of the British Ambassador to Luxembourg, Fleur Thomas.
BCC Chairman Andrew Notter addressed the 100-strong group of members, wishing everyone a Happy New Year and thanking Ambassador Thomas for hosting the event, as well as "all the very best on your next endeavours" in relation to the changeover of ambassadors in April. He recalled the total of 26 chamber events held in 2024 and, looking forward, highlighted a couple of specific events coming up, as well as special guests including Philip Hammond, former UK minister and ex-Chancellor, who will address the chamber in February.
Ambassador Thomas also wished everyone a Happy New Year and congratulated the chamber for increasing their membership numbers in 2024.
On the activities of the embassy last year, she mentioned building strong bilateral cooperation with Luxembourg and referenced two visits to the Grand Duchy last year by Britain's Foreign Secretary; looking ahead, she mentioned that Luxembourg's Foreign Minister, Xavier Bettel, will visit Britain before she leaves office here late in the spring.
On the cultural side, she recalled many British artists visiting Luxembourg last year, including Nik Kershaw and others. She also talked about the continued support of Ukraine and her optimism for a shared future, before concluding with what she described as the ambitious plans of the chamber in 2025.
Representatives of both sponsors, Artas Advisory and Swissquote, then addressed the event before the networking part of the evening got into full swing.
