At the Annual General Meeting of the British Chamber of Commerce for Luxembourg which took place on Wednesday 18 April, Joanna Denton was re-elected to the role of Chair.

"I am honoured to have been re-elected by the Council and I hope to continue to serve you, our Members, in the best way I can. The AGM was the moment to get together with the Members present, and we were kindly hosted by EY who also made available their roof top terrace, so we could take advantage of a fine summer’s evening and admire the spectacular birds eye view of early evening Kirchberg" said Joanna Denton.

Highlights from 2017

2017 was a year for reflection on everything that we as a Chamber have achieved in these first 25 years, going from a small chamber of only 75 Members to one of 322 Members in 2017. We have come a long way in 25 years, and we can all be proud of what the Chamber has become.

Moving forward into 2018

If 2017 gave us the chance to reflect on what we do already, it also helped us articulate how there is still more we can do!

The ongoing negotiations around Brexit will continue to be a priority for many of our members – be it as individuals or as companies – and we will continue to arrange events around this, including the Brexit briefings from the Ambassador. As my vice-chairs Jill and Dan mentioned at the New Year’s Cocktail, if 2017 was a year to gather information, 2018 should hopefully be a year to turn to action as the practical implications of the exit of the UK from the EU become clearer to all.

More generally for the Chamber as we move into 2018, we have decided to place a particular focus on three main strategic areas:

- Communications, both internal and external: As a Chamber, we have always had something to say, but we have not necessarily been very good at saying it out loud;
- Community development, within the Chamber for our members, and for the Chamber vis à vis the larger community that is Luxembourg; and
- Commercial sustainability of the Chamber, tapping into new opportunities for partnerships and collaborations.

As we go through the year we will provide more details on these initiatives.
