On Wednesday 4 November 2026, the Luxembourg Basketball Federation (FLBB) announced that Luxembourg had officially submitted its bid to FIBA Europe to co-host the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2029.
The Grand Duchy has joined Finland and Switzerland as one of three countries whose national federations have submitted formal bids to host Europe's biggest women's basketball tournament. The FLBB confirmed that Luxembourg's bid specifically concerns hosting a group stage of the competition.
The FIBA Europe Board is scheduled to decide on the hosts of the tournament during its spring meeting in Rome, Italy, on Saturday 27 March 2027.
FLBB President Max Krippler stated: "Hosting this flagship women's basketball event would be a major honour and challenge at the same time. Being a small country is no reason not to have big plans." He added: "After the successful U16 women's group stage in Bertrange, we are willing to offer the stage for the highest level of European competition. Co-hosting the event would also align with our ongoing efforts to support women's sports. Furthermore, 2029 offers a great timeline for our talented team."
