The European Parliament has announed that Slava Ukrayini Luxembourg asbl, an association created in February 2022 following the war in Ukraine, is one of the winners of the European Citizen's Prize 2022.

This year, 300 applications were submitted, out of which 30 winners were selected from 23 countries.

Slava Ukrayini Luxembourg, led by Julien Doussot, received the European Citizen's Prize from the hands of Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Christophe Hansen.

Slava Ukrayini aims to provide assistance and support migrants from Ukraine and their families seeking international protection in Luxembourg. The association also helps in organising schooling of children, search for housing and jobs, and administrative support necessary for social and professional integration. The team is made up of volunteers who are personally committed to supporting refugee families. “Volunteers have shown remarkable commitment to activities which give practical implementation to the values enshrined in the European Charter of Fundamental Rights,” said the jury.

MEP Hansen said: "The war in Ukraine was triggered by the imperialist thoughts of Putin that seem to belong to another era. We will not bring Putin to his senses, but in times of war, a society could desire to help others. In this sense, Slava Ukrayini, also representative of all those who put their hands in the dough, is a reflection of a society such I wish."
