On Saturday 18 July 2026, Luxembourg para athlete Massimo Saputo won the T47 100m event and set a new personal best at the Para Athletics Heimspiel 2026 meeting in Leverkusen, Germany.
According to the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC), Massimo Saputo, who competes in the T47 classification for athletes with upper limb impairments, clocked a personal best of 12.78 seconds in the final, improving his previous best of 13.17 seconds and surpassing the target set at the beginning of the season.
The Luxembourg athlete qualified for the final after running 13.00 seconds in the heats before producing his fastest-ever time to secure victory in the T47 category.
He also competed in the 400m, recording a time of 60.61 seconds. Despite fatigue following several races throughout the day, the performance rounded off what LPC described as a successful competition.
According to LPC, the result carries particular significance as a serious injury last year had cast doubt over Massimo Saputo's sporting future. Following a lengthy rehabilitation period, intensive training and support from the Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC) and the Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports (LIHPS), the athlete has confirmed the progress made since returning to competition.
His coach, Sid Chougrani, was particularly pleased with the performance: “Seeing Massimo return to this level of performance and exceed the goals set at the beginning of the season makes me very proud. This achievement is the result of many months of hard work, perseverance and determination.”
