On Monday 21 April 2025, Sofia Snäll set a new Luxembourg national record in the hammer throw, according to the Luxembourg Athletics Federation (Fédération Luxembourgeoise d'Athlétisme – FLA).
The new mark of 55.51 metres was achieved by the eighteen-year-old athlete during the XXXIII Osterwerfen competition organised by TVG Trier in Germany.
Sofia Snäll improved her previous personal best and national record – including the U23 and U20 categories – by 67 cm. It was only in mid-February 2025 that she threw the 4 kg hammer 54.84 m at the “Werpersmeeting Opsinjoor” in Mechelen, Belgium.
Currently, in the 2025 World Athletics ranking for U20 Women’s Hammer Throw, the Luxembourgish athlete sits in 73rd place with a mark of 52.08 m, set at the Championnat Grand Est de Lancers Longs in Yutz (France) in January 2025. If her 55.51 m result is ratified, Sofia Snäll is expected to move up nearly 40 places.
