On Friday 1 May 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that they carried out alcohol impairment checks in Bascharage on Thursday 30 April and in Foetz on Friday 1 May.
The checks were undertaken at the request of the State Prosecutor, as provided for by Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 on the regulation of traffic on all public roads.
On Thursday 30 April, between 22:00 and 23:30, checks were performed on Avenue de Luxembourg in Bascharage where a total of 262 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication.
In two cases, the test proved positive and two official reports were drawn up. No driving licences were withdrawn on the spot.
One offence relating to vehicle documents was recorded (Unregistered vehicle, €145).
On 1 May 2026, between 00:30 and 02:00, checks were performed on Rue du Brill in Foetz where 148 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication.
In seven cases, the test proved positive and four official reports were drawn up. Two driving licences were withdrawn on the spot.
In other cases, reports were created where one motorist was found to be driving under the influence of narcotics / cannabis (one report), one driver (minor) was driving a category B motor vehicle without a driving licence (one report) and one driver was wanted for notification of a driving ban (one report).
Two offences relating to the possession of narcotics were also recorded (two administrative fines for cannabis, €145 each).
