The Grand Ducal Police have reported that four driving licences were confiscated following drink-driving offences which occurred across Luxembourg between the evenings of Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February 2026.
According to the initial information, at approximately 22:36 on Saturday 21 February, the police were notified of a vehicle travelling in an erratic manner on the A6 near Capellen. The vehicle was stopped by a police patrol at the exit. As the driver showed clear signs of intoxication, a breathalyser test was carried out, which returned a positive result. It was further established that the foreign driving licence submitted to the officers was forged. The licence was confiscated, a provisional driving ban was imposed and a report for forgery was drawn up. On the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the vehicle was seized.
At approximately 03:50 on Sunday 22 February, police officers encountered a vehicle coming in the opposite direction on Rue de Belval in Esch-sur-Alzette, which narrowly avoided a head-on collision with the patrol car. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was checked. A breathalyser test returned a positive result and the driving licence was withdrawn. Due to the driver’s uncooperative behaviour at the police station, he was placed in a holding cell to sober up following a medical examination.
On the evening of Sunday 22 February, a police patrol on Rue de Luxembourg in Steinfort noticed a vehicle that was initially stopped in the middle of the road and then drove in an erratic manner towards Windhof. The vehicle was subsequently stopped. During the driver’s check, officers observed clear signs of alcohol consumption. The breathalyser test returned a positive result and the driver’s licence was confiscated.
Moreover, on the same evening, the police were notified of a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch on the CR102 in Kehlen. A police patrol attended the scene immediately and located the driver, who displayed clear signs of alcohol consumption. He was taken to hospital for assessment. His driving licence was confiscated and the vehicle was seized on the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
