On Sunday 22 February 2026, on the occasion of National Resistance Day, Luxembourg Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, attended the annual commemorative ceremony which took place in Luxembourg City.

National Resistance Day commemorates the murder of 23 Luxembourg resistance fighters, executed on 25 February 1944 at the Hinzert concentration camp, near Trier, Germany. It also provides an opportunity to pay tribute to those who resisted and died under Nazi occupation of the Grand Duchy during the Second World War.

In a press release issued on Sunday 22 February, the Luxembourg Ministry of State remarked that beyond remembrance, National Resistance Day is a day for everyone to reflect on the importance of personal commitment and vigilance in the face of threats to freedoms and democratic principles.
