On Sunday 15 February 2026, the Grand Ducal Police issued a warning to the public about ATM scams reported across Luxembourg.

According to the police, fraudsters manipulate the card slot of cash machines so that customers’ bank cards become stuck inside. A person then approaches the customer, pretending to offer help and asking them to enter their PIN code to release the card. Although the machine does not return the card, the fraudsters are able to obtain the PIN code, for example by tampering with the keypad.

The police warned that once customers leave the ATM, the fraudsters may remove the card and withdraw money from the victim’s account.

The police advised customers to always shield the keypad when entering their PIN code at a cash machine. If a card becomes stuck and does not eject, customers should never enter their PIN code again and should never share it with third parties.

In such cases, customers should block their card immediately, either via the 24-hour Worldline helpline on 491-010 or through their mobile banking application.

Police have urged anyone who becomes a victim of this type of fraud or notices suspicious activity to contact them without delay.
