On Thursday 12 February 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that a number of driving licences were confiscated and driving bans issued following alcohol and drug checks across Luxembourg on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February 2026. 

According to the police, during a vehicle check at approximately 16:00 on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 February between Hunsdorf and Müllendorf, officers detected the smell of cannabis. Furthermore, the driver showed clear signs of drug consumption and was unable to produce valid vehicle documents. An on-the-spot drugs test proved positive, his driving licence was confiscated and the vehicle was seized. A report was drawn up.

On Wednesday evening, during a traffic check near Gilsdorf a police patrol noticed a vehicle passing at excessive speed. The officers immediately gave chase and were able to stop the vehicle near the football pitch in Gilsdorf and carry out a check on the driver. He was unable to produce a valid driving licence. A drugs test proved positive and a provisional driving ban was issued.

During the early hours of Thursday 12 February, police were informed of a driver sitting in a vehicle with the engine running on Rue de la Reconnaissance in Bascharage, possibly asleep at the wheel. A police patrol located and checked the driver shortly afterwards. A breathalyser test proved positive and his driving licence was confiscated.

Shortly afterwards, a police patrol on Pont Adolphe in Luxembourg City noticed a vehicle which overtook the police car at excessive speed and then continued driving in a zigzag manner. The driver was immediately stopped and checked by officers. He was subjected to a breathalyser test, which proved positive. A provisional driving ban was issued.
