The Grand Ducal Police have reported that several incidents on Wednesday 28 January 2026 led to the detention of an individual and positive alcohol and drug tests following separate traffic accidents.
According to the police, during the afternoon, officers were alerted to a shoplifting incident at a supermarket in Ingeldorf. A police patrol located the suspected offender at the scene, who showed clear signs of alcohol consumption. Due to his intoxicated state and for disturbing public order, the man was detained following a medical examination. A report was filed.
In a separate incident around midday, police were notified of a traffic accident involving two cars on the CR169 in Schifflange. Both drivers were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. A roadside drug test carried out on one of the drivers returned a positive result, and a report was filed.
Later that afternoon, at around 14:15, police were called to a traffic accident on Route d’Arlon in Luxembourg-Belair, where a pedestrian was struck by a car. According to initial information, the driver noticed a turning vehicle too late, swerved and mounted the pavement, hitting the pedestrian. The pedestrian was seriously injured and taken to hospital. An alcohol test carried out on the driver returned a positive result, and a report was filed.
