According to the Grand Ducal Police and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), a fire broke out at a hotel-restaurant in Belvaux on Friday 16 January 2026.
The CGDIS confirmed that the blaze occurred on Rue des Alliés in Belvaux around 23:20 and resulted in four people sustaining injuries.
The incident required the intervention of nearly 80 firefighters from multiple CIS fire and rescue centres, as well support from the GATO operational technological group, the CSL logistics centre, a SAMU ambulance with assisting doctor and several rescue transport vehicles.
Police reported that, upon their arrival, all guests had already evacuated the building. The CGDIS had rescued one person - suffering from severe smoke inhalation - from the hotel using a turntable ladder.
Officers also encountered a couple inside the hotel. One of the individuals admitted to starting the fire and was arrested on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The suspect is due to appear before an investigating judge on Saturday afternoon.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has tasked the forensic police (Police Technique) and special investigations unit (Enquêtes spécialisées) with investigating the incident.
