The Grand Ducal Police have reported that during the night of Friday 9 through Saturday 10 January 2026, they carried out alcohol intoxication checks on the instruction of the Public Prosecutor, as provided for in Article 12, paragraph 3, sub-paragraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 concerning traffic regulations on all public roads.

According to the police, the checks took place at several locations across Luxembourg, including Lëtzebuergerstrooss in Frisange, Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange, Rue de Bastogne in Ettelbruck, the N7 Colmar-Pont in Schieren, Route d’Ettelbruck in Diekirch, Côte d’Eich and Boulevard du Dr Charles Marx in Luxembourg City, as well as Route de Thionville in Hesperange.

In total, 881 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication.

In 24 cases, the test result was positive, with nineteen official reports and five fixed-penalty warnings issued. Seven driving licences were withdrawn on the spot, according to the police.
