The Grand Ducal Police have reported two separate arrests in recent days linked to theft, traffic and drug offences in Luxembourg.

On the morning of Wednesday 7 January 2026, a shoplifting incident was reported at a supermarket in Differdange. Police located the suspect on site. On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, the individual was arrested and later brought before an investigating judge.

In a separate incident during the night of Thursday 8 January 2026, at around 00:50, police were alerted by Belgian authorities who were pursuing a vehicle that had evaded a police check and was heading towards Luxembourg. The vehicle later crashed in La Gaichel in Eischen. According to police, the driver fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly afterwards following a brief pursuit. Two other occupants were found inside the vehicle.

Checks revealed that the vehicle was not registered, had no valid number plates and was uninsured. The driver was found to be driving without a licence and tested positive in an on-site drug test. Police also seized drugs from the suspect. A search of the vehicle uncovered pepper spray, several mobile phones and SIM cards, while cash was seized from the passengers. On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was arrested and brought before an investigating judge on Thursday afternoon.
