On Sunday 28 September 2025, the Coque National Sports and Culture Centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg hosted the fourth edition of its Open Day, attracting around 2,500 visitors.

The programme allowed visitors to try a wide range of activities. Aquatic and wellness sessions featured diving, water polo, aqua fitness, artistic swimming and sauna rituals. In the gymnasium and arena, guests could explore handball, basketball, badminton, athletics, gymnastics and Paralympic sports. Martial arts demonstrations included karate, judo, capoeira, kickboxing and kendo. Other activities ranged from climbing, table tennis and Indiaca to fitness classes, with additional entertainment such as juggling and magic shows in the amphitheatre. A dedicated kids’ area completed the line-up.

Event Manager of the Coque National Sports and Culture Centre, Irena Bastian, explained Chronicle.lu that the Open Day was designed as a family event held once a year to highlight the range of sports available at the venue: “We do it once per year just to show people, adults and kids, the possibilities of the different sports. To try it out, maybe to find a new activity for them… and also to showcase our restaurant and just to have fun.”

She noted that Paralympic sport was also included in this year’s programme: “We asked the different sports federations if they wanted to participate. This time the LPC [Luxembourg Paralympic Committee] joined with para-cycling equipment and a sportswoman demonstrating how it works. We wanted to integrate it because they train here and our aim is to show every activity we host throughout the year.”

According to Irena Bastian, around 25 sports were presented at the centre on this occasion. While she acknowledged that attendance was lower compared to the 2024 edition, this helped avoid queues and long waiting times, for example at the climbing wall.

The organisers also noted that a contest was held on-site, offering participants the chance to win prizes.
