The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a man was arrested following a police operation at an apartment building on Rue Bamertal in Diekirch on the evening of Wednesday 5 August 2026.

According to the police, officers were called to the address at around 18:00 following reports of noise disturbance and aggressive behaviour.

When police knocked on the resident's apartment door, they heard a sound from inside that resembled the manipulation of a firearm. As a result, the police special intervention unit was immediately deployed.

The police said the situation did not pose a danger to other residents. However, the building was evacuated as a precaution and a security perimeter was established while officers secured the scene.

The apartment was subsequently searched. On the orders of the Diekirch Public Prosecutor's Office, the resident was arrested and will appear before an investigating judge on Thursday 6 August 2026. Police also seized two airsoft guns.

Rue Bamertal remained closed during the operation and reopened at around 20:50.
