On Monday 3 March 2025, Luxembourg’s Customs and Excise Agency announced the recent seizure of 508 kilogrammes of cocaine in the cargo centre of Luxembourg Airport.

The drugs were discovered at the beginning of February 2025 during a customs check on an air freight shipment allegedly containing tapioca.

According to the Customs and Excise Agency, the goods were transported on a cargo plane coming from Brazil, and this unusual transport route attracted the attention of officials. The hidden drugs were found, during a subsequent inspection of the shipment, hidden in 3.6 tonnes of cornflour and distributed over five pallets.

The seized drugs are reported to have an estimated street value of €1 million.

The Grand Ducal Police helped the Customs and Excise Agency to secure evidence. The public prosecutor’s office has instigated an investigation in close cooperation with both customs and the police.
