The Grand Ducal Police have reported that the European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Piotr Serafin, met with Luxembourg's Minister for Homa Affairs, Léon Gloden, at the Cité Policière Grand-Duc Henri in Luxembourg-Findel on Wednesday 12 February 2025.
During a press conference, the police representatives highlighted the role of funding from the European Internal Security Fund (ISF) in helping to ensure a high level of security throughout the European Union.
Minister Gloden stressed the importance of efficient information exchange between EU Member States in order to effectively and cross-borderly combat organised crime, saying: "The financial contributions from the EU and Luxembourg demonstrate our commitment to security and border management."
In this case, an infrastructure enabling a relevant response to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) hazards, operated by Luxembourg's Special Police Unit (USP), was set up with the support of the ISF Police over the funding period from 2014 to 2020.
Following the press conference, European Commissioner Piotr Serafin inspected the equipment financed with the support of the ISF Police and discussed with the stakeholders the priorities for the next multiannual financial framework of the European Union.
With an allocation of €2.3 million allocated to Luxembourg for the period 2014-2020, including €1.2 million dedicated to the CBRN action plan, the ISF illustrates how the budget of the EU and its Member States contributes to strengthening internal security, concluded the police.
