On Tuesday 4 February 2025, Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, met with representatives of several food aid organisations, including social restaurants and social shops: Stëmm vun der Strooss, Hëllef um Terrain (HUT), den Cent Buttek, Croix-Rouge, Spëndchen asbl and Banque Alimentaire Luxembourg asbl.
Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture reported that meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the daily challenges faced by these organisations, which play a crucial role in combating food waste while providing vital support to those in need. Minister Hansen acknowledged their dedication and on-the-ground efforts, highlighting their alignment with the Ministry's #antigaspi campaign which addresses food waste.
"Their work is essential in promoting responsible and supportive consumption. Their efforts not only help reduce food waste but also strengthen social cohesion in our country," stated Minister Hansen.
During the meeting, Minister Hansen discussed with participants concrete ways in which the ministry could further support their efforts. This constructive dialogue provided an opportunity to explore how cooperation between public authorities and on-the-ground organisations can be strengthened in the fight against food waste.
