Drink Driving

The police also reported a number of drink-driving incidents. On Saturday night, a vehicle crashed on the CR226 in the direction of Contern. According to initial investigations, the driver lost control of his vehicle in a slight right-hand bend and collided with a guardrail on the driver's side. The vehicle was no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The driver was taken to hospital for a check-up. His alcohol test came back positive. The police confiscated his driver's licence and drew up a report.

During a speed check on the A13 near the Niederkerschen/Niederkorn junction at 02:11 on Sunday, a vehicle was found to be travelling at 173 km/h instead of the permitted 110 km/h. The officers managed to stop and check this vehicle on Rue Gadderscheier in Sanem. The alcohol test was positive, so the driver's licence was confiscated and a report was drawn up.

On Sunday evening, a rear-end collision involving two vehicles occurred just before a roundabout in Pétange. One of the drivers fled on foot in the direction of Athus (Belgium). A police patrol went to the scene and, with the help of the Belgian police, managed to locate and bring back the fleeing driver. The driver's alcohol test came back positive and it turned out that he already had a driving ban. The police drew up a report.

In the early hours of Monday 30 December 2024, a police patrol noticed a vehicle driving in a zigzag pattern on Boulevard Royal in Luxembourg-Ville. Despite clear stop signs, the driver continued driving; the officers had to force the vehicle to stop. During the check, the officers reportedly saw clear signs of alcohol consumption.
