Luxembourg's National Youth Service (SNJ) has started an awareness campaign highlighting the dangers of AI-generated disinformation.
According to the SNJ, in the era of artificial intelligence, digital disinformation is becoming a growing challenge, further threatening public trust. With this new campaign, BEE SECURE wants to increase Internet users' vigilance against the risks of deep fakes and other forms of disinformation made possible by AI: in November and December 2024, Internet users will be made aware of the AI techniques used to deceive and manipulate information.
The "Een Af mécht der honnert" campaign aims to anchor an essential message: before sharing it, question online information. Focused on the fight against AI-related disinformation, it supports the priorities of the sèche.digital action plan launched by the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth to strengthen digital skills and promote a safe online environment.
Deep fakes: increased risk of disinformation
The campaign provides information on the advanced techniques of deep fakes, a growing manipulation tool. Through videos and illustrated content, BEE SECURE shows how to recognize attempts at deception and promotes verification reflexes to reduce the impact of disinformation. Three key questions encourage Internet users to be critical of online information:
1. Who is behind this information?
2. Is the source reliable?
3. Is this topic discussed in the same way elsewhere?
A fictional universe to raise awareness: Welcome to the “Cyber-jungle”
To reach the public in a fun way, BEE SECURE introduces a fictional environment, the “Cyber-jungle”, which encourages critical thinking by using unique characters. With the humorous slogan “Monkey See, Monkey Do” (in Luxembourgish: “Een Af mécht der honnert”), the message is clear: do not believe or share everything one sees online. This playful framework makes the message accessible to all and encourages reflection on the veracity of online content.
A campaign entirely designed with AI tools
To illustrate the power and risks of AI, all the content in this campaign was created using artificial intelligence technologies. This unique choice aims to demonstrate the capabilities and also the potential dangers of AI in terms of content creation.
Multimedia broadcast for maximum impact
BEE SECURE will broadcast the campaign via various channels: social networks, public displays, and with the support of local influencers, to raise awareness among a wide audience about the issues of deep fakes and encourage more informed and responsible consumption of information online.
