On the morning of Monday 16 September 2024, Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs announced the scheduled technical validation of Cell Broadcast "in real conditions" in Dondelange.
As part of the overhaul of the LU-Alert population alert and information system, the first Cell Broadcast message is being sent out on Monday in Dondelange in real conditions.
The ministry explained that Cell Broadcast is a new alert channel of the future LU-Alert multi-channel alert and information system. The selected area in Dondelange reportedly offers the "optimal" technical and geographical conditions for the test.
The ministry described this test, not aimed at the general public, as "an important step" in validating the proper functioning of this new technology.
If by chance someone receives the test alert message, no specific behaviour or action is required on their part, added the ministry.
