On Monday 1 July 2024, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity and the Directorate of Defence, confirmed that Minister Yuriko Backes suffered a broken tibia (shin bone) on Sunday.
The Minister of Defence, Minister for Mobility and Public Works and Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity will have to limit her movements over the coming weeks; as a result, she will continue to oversee her duties and responsibilities remotely during her convalescence and until further notice.
