On the morning and afternoon of Tuesday 28 May 2024, two large fires broke out in the south of Luxembourg.

According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), around 11:30, a fire was reported to have erupted in the roof of a house on Rue Théodore Thiel in Dudelange. Such interventions typically require several hours, necessitating the dispatch of numerous resources to the site; this included a vehicle carrying additional insulating breathing apparatus and supplies for the firefighters on-site.

Around two hours later, another fire broke out in Wickrange, in Rue des Trois Cantons on the roof of a construction site, where insulation material had caught fire. Due to initial difficulties with the water supply,
machines with large capacities were mobilised, the CGDIS reported.

Given that significant resources were also mobilised for this second incident, the operations management centre (CGO) was activated. This measure was taken to ensure that operational coverage for the affected area and the Grand Duchy as a whole could continue to be guaranteed.
