On the afternoon of Tuesday 28 May 2024, the Grand Ducal Police issued a warning to inhabitants of Dudelange and Wickrange to keep their windows closed due to smoke from nearby fires.

According to the police, a fire broke out in the roof truss at Rue Theodore Thiel in Dudelange; the authorities prompted neighbouring residents to close their windows. Similarly, residents near a construction site fire on the Route des Trois Cantons in Wickrange should follow the same advisory.

Smoke entering homes can pose health risks such as respiratory issues, aggravated asthma and other lung conditions and it can lead to eye irritation. Prolonged exposure to smoke can be particularly harmful to vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
