The Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs has published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in April 2024.
International protection
A total of 119 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in April 2024, down from 145 in March 2024. In the first four months of 2024, Luxembourg received a total of 574 applications for international protection - down from 647 received during the same period in 2023.
158 decisions on asylum applications were taken in April 2024, with 71 applicants being granted refugee status (73 in March).
Eritreans (25) once again represented the largest group among applicants seeking asylum in Luxembourg in April 2024, followed by Syrian nationals (20). In the first four months of 2024 combined, most applications came from Eritreans (130), followed by Syrians (73), Colombians and Guinea nationals (30 each).
Temporary protection
A total of 54 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in April 2024 - down from 76 in March 2024. In the first four months of 2024, Luxembourg received a total of 275 such applications.
Of the applicants for April, 46 were Ukrainian nationals and eight were from other unspecified countries.
A total of 43 decisions on temporary protection applications were taken in April 2024, with 37 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (62 in March); six were rejected.
Whilst Ukrainians represented the largest group (234) among applicants for temporary protection in the first four months of 2024, there were also applications from twelve Algerian nationals and 29 nationals of other unspecified countries during this period.
