The Grand Ducal Police have reported that one person placed in the departure centre was arrested following investigations which revealed that he was under a European arrest warrant.

Following the extensive checks conducted in the capital’s Luxembourg-gare district on 7 February 2024, ensuing investigations since revealed that one of the two individuals who had been accommodated in the departure centre (centre de rétention) was under a European arrest warrant for alleged violations of German drug laws. The suspect was arrested on the public prosecutor's orders on Thursday 15 February 2024.

On 7 February 2024, the police conducted an extensive operation on Rue Joseph Junck and Rue du Fort Neipperg in Luxembourg-gare. The primary focus of this operation (which involved 89 police officers from various departments) was combating drug-related offences, checking for violations related to the possession and carrying of prohibited weapons, verifying identity and residency documentation and inspecting pub licensing papers.

A total of 85 individuals were checked. During the checks, small quantities of marijuana, hashish and MDMA were discovered, along with a telescopic baton, in possession of some of those inspected. Eight individuals were submitted to criminal identification, and unidentified person reports were issued in six instances. Additionally, two individuals were placed in the departure centre (centre de rétention) in Findel, awaiting deportation.
