The red weather warning for flooding has been extended for southern Luxembourg until Friday 5 January 2024 inclusive.

Luxembourg's weather portal, MeteoLux, warned of the continued possibility of major overflows (even in rarely flooded areas) in the south throughout Thursday 4 and Friday 5 January (00:00-23:59). This could pose a threat to the safety of people and property. In the north, an orange alert will remain in place on both days, with minor flooding possibly resulting in local damage.

As of the evening of Wednesday 3 January 2024, the flood warning service was still in "alert status" for the Alzette and Sûre rivers. The flood warning service for the Moselle river remained on "standby". Updates are available on the website www.inondations.lu.

The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) reported that the emergency services carried out six interventions in relation to flooding and one intervention concerning a fallen tree between 17:00 on Wednesday 3 January and 05:00 on Thursday 4 January 2024. Moreover, there were reports of sixteen flooded buildings and two "objects" (e.g. facades) impacted by the flooding earlier on Wednesday.
