Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has announced it will organise a rally for Gaza on Thursday 14 December 2023 from 10:00 in front of the Robert Schuman building of the European Parliament in Luxembourg.

MSF stressed that an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in the Gaza Strip. The non-profit organisation emphasised that, two months after the start of hostilities, the number of deaths, the level of destruction and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza are “alarming”.

Given the seriousness of the situation and the risk of escalation in the West Bank and the region, MSF highlighted that a serious debate on the war should be organised at the next European Council to be held in Brussels on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 December.

MSF is joining the Presidents and/or Prime Ministers of Spain, Belgium, Ireland and Malta in asking Charles Michel, President of the EU Council, to lead this discussion, which, according to the NGO, should aim for the European Union to adopt a “clear and firm position”. The EU must “urgently call on all parties to declare a lasting humanitarian ceasefire that can lead to an end to hostilities”.

To strengthen its demand, the Luxembourg section of MSF called upon citizens to participate in its rally to relay its appeal for Gaza. MSF noted it will call on Grand Ducal diplomacy to convey this message, particularly within European institutions, by making its voice heard to secure humanitarian access and protect civilians "whatever the cost".
