The federation of Luxembourgish hospitals (Fédération des Hôpitaux Luxembourgeois - FHL), the Luxembourg Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, and the Luxembourg Minister of Social Security, Claude Haagen, have recently agreed on additional weekend opening hours of the MRIs available in the four national hospitals.
The Northern Hospital Centre (Centre Hospitalier du Nord - CHDN) will open a device on Saturdays from 07:00 to 15:00 since Saturday 3 June 2023.
The Luxembourg Hospital Centre (Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg - CHL) have an additional device available on Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00 since Saturday 3 June 2023. According to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Security, two devices have already been operated on Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00 since April 2023.
The Emile Mayrisch Hospital Centre (Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch - CHEM) opened an additional MRI device on Sundays from 08:00 to 16:00 since 4 June 2023. A device has reportedly already been in operation on Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00 since May 2023.
The Robert Schuman Hospitals (Les Hôpitaux Robert Schuman - HRS) opened two devices on the Kirchberg site of the HRS, from Saturday 3 June 2023, which are now available for appointments on Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00. A device has reportedly already been operated since April 2023 on Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00 alternately between the Kirchberg Hospital and the Zithaklinik. This alternation will, therefore, end at the beginning of June, and the Kirchberg Hospital will have two MRI machines in operation on Saturdays from 08:00 to noon.
This extension of the medical imaging departments’ opening hours aims to reduce waiting times for obtaining an MRI examination.
The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Security and the FHL have reported that they will continue to work together with all the actors involved in order to improve access to MRI appointments in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
