The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) has reported that a large fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building in Grundhof, in eastern Luxembourg, on Wednesday evening.

At 22:30 on Wednesday 10 May 2023, the CSU-112 received several calls reporting a roof fire on Rue de Beaufort in Grundhof. The first firefighters on site were confronted with a large roof fire on the third floor of a hotel-turned-apartment building.

Thanks to the indications of the 112, the firefighters located one person who had been trapped on the third floor and brought the individual to safety using ladders. The SAMU team was also on site offering medical care. Three individuals had to be hospitalised.

About 60 firefighters, supported by the drone specialty, worked throughout the night to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading.

The main road was closed to traffic to allow pumping from the Sûre river to guarantee a sufficient flow.

The municipal authorities of Beaufort coordinated relocation of the individuals concerned.

The CGDIS added that the operations management centre had been activated to monitor the situation and anticipate operational coordination.
