On Thursday 29 December 2022, the Hygiene department of the City of Luxembourg announced details concernign the removal of Christmas trees from residents' homes.

During January 2023, Christmas trees will be removed during the regular rubbish collections, split into two categories:

- Trees dyed with spray and/or with decorations will be removed during the weekly mixed residual waste collection rounds.
- “Clean” trees, i.e. trees that are not spray-dyed and are undecorated, will be collected separately, also on the day of collection of mixed residual waste, or even the next day, for composting.

In both cases, residents just need to place the tree on the pavement or at the edge of the property before 0:.00 on the day of collection of mixed residual waste (the schedule of rounds by street can be consulted on dechets.vdl.lu).

Christmas trees measuring more than two metres must be pruned by cutting them in the middle.

It is also possible to return clean Christmas trees to the recycling centre on the Route d'Arlon, open Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 07:30 and Saturday from 08:30 to 06:00 (last entry 15 minutes before closing).
