A ceremony took place at the "Krounebierg" omnisports centre in Mersch on Thursday 27 October 2022 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the participation of the Luxembourg Army in peacekeeping operations.

During this ceremony, the medal of recognition for missions abroad was awarded to Luxembourg and foreign members who had taken part in a peacekeeping mission between 2020 and 2022. In addition, two Luxembourg soldiers were decorated with the Belgian medal.

Since the first peacekeeping mission in former Yugoslavia in 1992, more than 1,500 Luxembourg soldiers have been deployed in war-torn regions. The active presence of Luxembourg contingents within these peacekeeping missions contributes to fulfilling an important part of Luxembourg's international obligations.

Over the years, the Luxembourg Army has continued to modernise and adapt to the evolution of the security system in Europe and elsewhere. Owing to its operability, it believes itself to be a valued and respected partner at the international level at present.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of this international commitment under the mandate of the United Nations (UN), NATO and the European Union (EU), the Luxembourg Army published a commemorative book which was given to recipients, veterans and active executives having participated in a peacekeeping operation.

During the reception offered by the municipality of Mersch, a temporary exhibition produced in cooperation with the National Museum of Military History (MNHM) of Diekirch offered a retrospective on 30 years of Luxembourg military history in the service of peace.
