Grand Duchess' Younger Brother Passes Away Aged 64

The Grand Ducal Court has issued a statement announcing the death of Luis Mestre, the younger brother of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

The statement read: "It is with great sadness that Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess announce the death of Mr Luis MESTRE, the younger brother of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess, which occurred today, in Geneva, at the age of 64".

Luis Mestre's death follows that of their older brother, José Antonio Mestre, who passed away aged 62 in February 2015.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has one surviving sibling, her sister Catalina.

Update: On Wednesday evening, the Grand Ducal Court confirmed that the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess, accompanied by their family, will attend Luis Mestre's funeral in Geneva, Switzerland. A condolence book will be accessible to the public at the Grand Ducal Palace (access via the rear gate, on Rue du Rost) on Thursday 2 June 2022 from 13:00 to 17:00 and on Friday 3 June 2022 from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00. The flags of the Grand Ducal Palace and Berg Castle, the principal residence of the Grand Duke, will be lowered from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 June 2022.
