Ostrich Farm Open Day in 2014;

South Africa's national day, also known as the Freedom Day, is celebrated annually on 27 April; it commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994.

According to the Luxembourg Government IT Centre (Centre des technologies de l'information de l'État - CTIE), there are 544 residents in Luxembourg with South African nationality as of 3 January 2022.

In Luxembourg, the South Africa community actively takes part in the annual Bazaar International, at LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, showcasing a variety of crafts including pottery mugs and platters, wire products and Swazi Candles, as well a wide selection of jewellery.

Although no community events are planned around 27 April, the South African Club, a voluntary organisation, will be present at the Ostrich Festival ("Straussefest"), also known as the Ostrich Farm Open Day, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May 2022, in Contern. The South African Stand (supporting the International Bazaar) will also be present at this event selling food (including ostrich burgers, ostrich burgers, ostrich sausages) from it Braai (South African barbecue) and drinks. Also, on the Saturday, "Fade to Gray" (whose members are originally from South Africa) will be in concert from 15:00. The ostrich farm, spread over 130 hectares, is operational since 1795 and is currently managed by Martine Axmann-Reuter (formerly by Marcel & Nicole Wildgen who started the annual tradition) and has held its Open Day close to South Africa's Freedom Day for many years now.
