The Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that Luxembourg received a total of 133 applications for international protection (asylum) last month.

The number of people applying for asylum in Luxembourg in January 2022 dropped slightly from 136 the previous month and considerably higher from 67 in January 2021.

A total of 115 decisions on asylum applications were taken last month, with 41 applicants being granted refugee status in Luxembourg.

The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in January 2022 came from Syria (39), followed by Eritrea (27), Afghanistan (eight) and Venezuela (eight).

In 2021, Luxembourg received a total of 1,250 asylum applications, higher than the 1,165 applications received the year before.
