Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice has announced the extension of deadlines for commercial and civil matters until 31 December 2021.

On Tuesday 29 June 2021, Luxembourg deputies (MPs) unanimously adopted bills 7826 and 7837 aimed at extending the deadlines for certain measures introduced in civil and commercial matters in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and which granted greater flexibility to the parties involved.

In commercial matters, the organisation of meetings in companies and other legal persons does not require the physical presence of participants, the time limit for the admission of suspension of payments is suspended and a mortgage can be taken out by proxy at the notary. The deadline for these measures had already been extended to 30 June and will now apply until 31 December 2021.

These measures are currently being analysed to see if they should be sustained.

The deadline for authorising a wedding in a municipal building other than the town hall will also be extended until the end of 2021.
