On Saturday 26 June 2021, the mayor and aldermen of the Ville de Luxembourg, along with Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, and the Director General of Luxtram, André Von der Marck, inaugurated the newly-refurbished Place de Paris which has been redesigned and redeveloped.

The tram has been running along the Avenue de la Liberté for six months to continue its route from LuxExpo to Luxembourg-Gare. The redevelopment of the Place de Paris, carried out by LuxTram following citizen participation led by the Ville de Luxembourg, marks an important milestone for residents, traders and visitors to the Gare district, who can now avail of all the advantages offered by this friendly and brand new place. Its open and spacious layout, embellished with eighteen plane trees, invites people to have a drink on a terrace, to stock up on a walk or bike ride or simply to rest on a bench under a tree on the edge of the fountain.

Mayor Lydie Polfer was delighted with the renovated square. “After twelve months of intense work, the redevelopment project for the Place de Paris is finally becoming a reality. Today, we are happy to be able to inaugurate, in a festive setting and together with the neighbourhood establishments, this new space which fits perfectly into the urban landscape of the most beautiful street in our capital and which makes it possible to sustainably improve the quality of life of citizens" she said.

Minister François Bausch stated “The redevelopment of the Place de Paris perfectly shows that the integration of the tram in the city is much more than a simple mobility improvement project. The tram project has made it possible to review the public space from facade to facade and restore this square to its role as a pole of attraction and centereof gravity for the Gare district."

Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt stated “This new square is now functional! The Gare district now has a beautiful square that will revitalise neighbourhood life by hosting local festivals, cultural events and a new weekly market (the 'Garer Maart') which will take place every Thursday from 07:30 - 14:00 from 8 July 2021. In addition, the vel'OH! station installed rue Ste Zithe will allow cyclists to travel easily between the Upper Town and the Place de Paris by taking the new cycle path along the avenue de la Liberté."
