Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced the extension of the deadline for submitting applications for post-Brexit residence permits until 31 December 2021.

As of 1 February 2020, the United Kingdom's (UK) withdrawal from the European Union (EU), i.e. Brexit, became effective. The withdrawal took place according to the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement between the UK and the EU.

Under this agreement, British nationals and their family members residing in Luxembourg before the end of the transition period (i.e. 31 December 2020) retain their right of residence. In order to assert these rights, a specific residence document attesting to their status as beneficiary of the Withdrawal Agreement is required.

In order to allow everyone concerned to submit their request and thus secure their right to stay in Luxembourg, the deadline for submitting an application for this residence permit, initially set for 30 June 2021, has been extended until 31 December 2021.
