The Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that Luxembourg received a total of 90 applications for international protection (asylum) last month.

The number of people applying for asylum in Luxembourg in April 2021 rose from 81 the previous month and from ten in April 2020.

A total of 179 decisions on asylum applications were taken last month, with 102 applicants being granted refugee status in Luxembourg.

So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 303 asylum applications, down from 386 received by this time last year.

The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in April 2021 came from Syria (31) and Eritrea (22), with five coming from Ethiopia, five from Morocco and another five from Sudan. The remaining 22 applications came from various other countries.
